Kennewick Washington – NASCAR has named Brittney Zamora the 2018 Wendell Scott Trailblazer Award winner. Wendell Scott had a huge impact on NASCAR and introduced a new fan base to racing. Scott is largely responsible for the diversification programs that are in NASCAR today. Scott was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1999 and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015.
Zamora will receive the award December 7th at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series awards banquet. The award is presented annually to an outstanding minority or female driver that competes in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The Wendell Scott Trailblazer Award is selected by a committee, based on nominations received from drivers, crew members and track operators. There were 500 eligible candidates for the 2018 award.
It is surreal for me to say that I will be receiving the Wendell Scott Trailblazer Award and to be following in the footsteps of such a historical individual. Wendell is such a key part of the history of NASCAR and he did so much for diversifying our sport. To be even a small part of Wendell Scott’s and NASCAR’s history is a huge honor for me, my team and our sponsors. I am so excited and thankful for this honor said Zamora.
